Uncontested Divorces

LIFE IS FULL OF CHANGES

During the course of a person’s life span numerous changes take place:  we go off to college, get married, buy our first home and have children that we raise with our spouse.  As we experience these significant life changes, terminating your marital relationship is not something planned, however, in today’s fast paced world, it is something that unfortunately can happen.

Reaching the decision to dissolve your marriage is often difficult.  Feelings of loss, anger and disbelief may be some of the many emotions you experience during this time period.  However, life does not stop.  You still have to maintain your employment, pay your bills, care for your home and children.

Retaining legal counsel is one of the many tasks that must be undertaken during the dissolution of marriage process.  However, attorney’s fees for even simple dissolutions can be tremendous; on an average reaching to $10,000 or more.

If you and your spouse can agree upon such issues as who will have primary custody of the children, how will we conduct visitation with our children or what is the best method to divide our property and split our marital debt, you may not need to hire an attorney to represent you.  Many laypeople everyday handle their own dissolution matters, including custody, visitation, child and spousal support and property division issues.  Why spend thousands of unnecessary dollars when you can dissolve your marriage and move on without being further in debt?

What In Pro Per Document Preparation Services Can Do for You

In Pro Per (which means “you represent yourself”) Document Preparation Services (In Pro Per DPS) will handle your dissolution of marriage matter for you and alleviate the stress and strain associated with the process.  We will complete all of the required legal documents for filing with the court.  Because an attorney reviews all legal paperwork prior to obtaining your signature, you can be assured that the most current laws, forms and procedures are observed.

In Pro Per DPS will also file your documents in the proper court district, arrange to have the legal papers personally served and will discuss the dissolution procedure with you at every step of the way.  We strive to find the least expensive means to handle your dissolution.

We will assist you in drafting Marital Settlement Agreements, Stipulated Judgments, Parenting Agreements and Custody/Visitation Plans.  Additionally, we will assist you in complying with all of the mandatory CaliforniaThis translates into competent legal assistance without unnecessarily exhausting sometimes limited financial resources.

Most dissolution of marriage proceedings are either uncontested or result in default; which means that the responding party fails to respond to the Petition.   In the majority of the cases we handle, the parties have little to no property and no or few children.  As such, we can handle these cases much less expensively than an attorney.  In Pro Per DPS completes most simple dissolution matters for under $1,000 (this includes the court filing fees which are approximately $320 or more for most counties, process server fees for personal service and court filing!)

We can also assist you in obtaining temporary orders to permit you to continue to maintain your current lifestyle without interruption and allow you to meet your financial obligations as they become due.  We can provide you with the peace of mind you so greatly need during a stressful time period.

What if I have already started my divorce?

Often parties begin the divorce paperwork process and for whatever reason, the paperwork is never completed.  In some instances, the paperwork has been completed but rejected by the court.  In Pro Per DPS will troubleshoot your divorce and determine what measures must be taken to complete the divorce and obtain the family law judgment (the document which finalizes your divorce process.)  For the low fee of $275, In Pro Per will review all papers filed in your divorce action, advise you of what must be done and then complete the necessary papers to finalize your divorce.  Costs may be slightly higher if paperwork which should have been completed in the inital stages of the divorce were never completed or filed.

For an additional charge, we can employ a courier to retrieve your divorce paperwork from the court.  However, the client will need to have a case number.  If you don't have a case number, our courier service can do an "index" for the county where your divorce action was filed for $20.  Courier fees reasonably range from $55 to $75 to go to court, retrieve and photocopy your divorce paperwork.
